These commands show what the dashboard’s Overview, Query Logs, Audit log and Topology pages show, and change the server-wide settings under Settings → General. See Monitoring, Query logs, Audit log, Topology and Settings.

Query log

Traffic stats

dnz stats sums up a division’s traffic like the dashboard does (--all, for superadmins: the whole server, like All queries on the Overview):
  • queries, NXDOMAIN ratio, SERVFAILs and average answer time;
  • counts per hour (24h), per 6 hours (7d) or per day (30d, 90d);
  • Answered by: queries answered locally, forwarded, from the cache, blocked or failed, with each kind’s share and the sources inside it (for example upstream 120, conditional 8);
  • the top five names and clients, with each client’s NXDOMAIN share.
Counts come from hourly totals kept for 400 days. The top lists come from hourly top names and clients, kept as long as the query log, so they cover at most log_retention_days (7 days by default).

Audit log

Who changed what, newest first:
Superadmins see every division’s entries. Others see the divisions where they have audit.read: the one given with --division, or their only one.

Topology

dnz topology prints the topology map as an outline:
  • server-wide (superadmin): the query path, filtering, forwarding, views, replication, proxies, certificates and notifications;
  • then each division with its members, tokens, zones, Cloudflare connection, client networks and filtering.
Like the map in the dashboard, it shows only what your permissions allow.

Settings

Server-wide settings need a superadmin.
  • Time zone: an IANA name, or server to follow the server’s own time zone. It is used for schedules and reports, such as the daily summary. Data is stored in UTC.
  • Auto PTR: answers PTR queries (in-addr.arpa, ip6.arpa) from existing A and AAAA records, with no reverse zone needed. PTR records you write yourself still win.
  • DNS64: --prefix is the NAT64 prefix (default 64:ff9b::/96), --network the client networks it applies to (repeat or comma-separate; all for every client).
  • Cookies and NSID: dnz settings nsid on uses the hostname unless you pass --value.
  • Metrics: on/off, --addr a listen address of their own (off for none), --api on|off for /metrics on the HTTP API, --new-token (printed once) and --remove-token. See Prometheus and Grafana.
See Resolver options.

Response rate limiting

dnz settings rrl without flags shows the RRL settings and the counters since the server started (dropped, truncated, would be limited). With flags, it changes only the flags given.
See Rate limiting.
