# Dashboard tour

> Find your way around the DNZ dashboard: the top bar, the menu, Find and Create New.

The dashboard is a single-page app built into the `dnz` binary. It works offline (no fonts or
icons from a CDN), supports light and dark mode, and moves its menu to a bottom dock on phones.

## The top bar

From left to right:

* **DNZ logo**: back to the Overview.
* **Division switcher**: the division you're working in. Zones, members, tokens and logs follow it.
  You only see the divisions you're assigned to; superadmins see them all.
* **The menu**: Overview, Topology, DNS, Proxy, Access, Settings.
* **Find** (`⌘K` on macOS, `Ctrl+K` elsewhere): jump to any page, zone or setting by typing.
* **Health** (superadmins): whether the forward DNS upstreams are up, which one is resolving now
  and which takes over next.
* **Create New**: a zone, user, role, division or notification provider, depending on what you may
  do.
* **Incidents** (superadmins): upstream outages and recoveries.
* **Account menu**: account settings (profile, password, signed-in sessions), the theme (System,
  Light or Dark), sign out, and **About DNZ** with the version.

## The menu

What you see depends on your role. Sections you can't use are hidden.

## Overview

The landing page sums up the current division:

* **Traffic**: queries over the chosen range (24 hours to 90 days), with answered, NXDOMAIN and
  SERVFAIL counts. A division's traffic is the names in its zones plus everything clients in its
  [client networks](https://docs.dnzwithazee.com/dns/filtering.md) ask. Superadmins get a **Scope** switch: **All queries** (their
  default) counts the whole server, including names forwarded for clients in no client network,
  such as google.com from a laptop no division claims. The other choice shows just the division.
  Answered by, the top lists, Recent queries and the links into the query log follow the scope.
* **Answered by**: how many of those queries were answered from your zones (**Local**), sent to an
  upstream or a forwarding rule (**Forwarded**), served from the **Cache**, **Blocked**, or ended in
  an **Error**, each with its share. Click one to open the query log filtered to it.
* **Top names and clients**, each linking into the query log.
* **Request flow**: how queries travel from clients through filtering, the cache and forwarding
  rules to the upstreams. With proxying on, a **Proxy** tab shows visitors → each proxy → its
  routers and middlewares → services → upstreams.
* **Zones**: a card per zone.
* **Recent queries**.
* **Alerts**: recent upstream outages.

Superadmins also see **forward DNS monitoring** and server usage. See
[Monitoring](https://docs.dnzwithazee.com/dashboard/monitoring.md).
